What is Beyond Belief about?

The beliefs you hold literally shape what you notice, how you feel, and what you're capable of doing. Nir Eyal spent three decades struggling with diets until he realized the real problem was believing only the perfect plan mattered. This book teaches the three powers of belief through concrete tools and Byron Katie's Work method, helping you replace the beliefs holding you back with ones that move you forward.

Beyond Belief: Summary

Nir Eyal fought his own body for thirty years. As a kid in central Florida he never took his shirt off at the pool. He wore his father's old jeans, always too tight around the waist, and sucked in his stomach whenever someone looked at him. As an adult he tried every diet trend there was. He counted fat grams in a spiral notebook, ate vegetarian on tofu and potatoes, tried low carb, then keto, then intermittent fasting. Each one worked, for a while. Then an article or an expert would question the method's premise, and his confidence would collapse. Failure-justifying thoughts crept in, like the idea that it's harder for a bigger person to exercise, or that the food industry was conspiring against him. The weight came back. He repeated this cycle for decades before he landed on the idea the whole book is built on. He didn't need to find the perfect diet. He needed to drop the belief that only the perfect plan counts.

This book is about what happens when you stop asking "Is this belief true?" and start asking "Does this belief serve me?" Behavioral scientist Nir Eyal, writing with Julie Li, isn't claiming that positive thinking alone fixes everything. Quite the opposite. Using brain research and medical experiments, they show that your beliefs literally rewrite what you see, what you feel, and what you're capable of. But that only happens when belief pairs with action. Over the next chapters we'll trace how belief filters your reality, shapes your physical sensations, and decides whether you quit or keep trying. By the end you'll know exactly what to do the moment you wake up tomorrow.
