What is The Simple Path to Wealth about?
Wealth isn't about earning more—it's about needing less. You'll discover why debt is freedom's only real enemy and how a surprisingly simple investment strategy can turn anyone into a millionaire. This book walks you through the math of compound wealth: spend less than you earn, invest the difference in index funds, avoid debt, and then get out of the way.

The Simple Path to Wealth: Summary
The beggar and the minister who pitied him
Two children grew up together in a village, then their paths split. One became a humble monk who lived on rice and beans. The other became a rich and powerful minister who enjoyed the king's favor, wore fine robes, and ate meat every night. Years later they crossed paths again. The portly minister looked the thin, shabby monk up and down and felt sorry for him. "You know," he said kindly, "if you learned to cater to the king, you wouldn't have to live on rice and beans."
The monk smiled. "You know," he replied, "if you learned to live on rice and beans, you wouldn't have to cater to the king."
Those two sentences hold the entire book. J. L. Collins, an American investor who started writing letters about money to his daughter, spins this single insight across three hundred pages. Wealth, he argues, is not about how much meat you can buy. It is about how free you are. And most of us stand somewhere between the beggar and the minister, convinced that more money is the answer, when wanting less takes you to the same place, only faster.
This summary walks you through Collins's line of thinking. Why is debt your biggest enemy? Why doesn't a high salary make you rich, and why do most people lose money in the market? And how can a single, boringly simple sequence of steps get you to the point where your money works for you instead? There will be no magic in it. That is exactly the point.
The leech you put on yourself, on purpose
Let's start with the dark side, because everything starts there. Collins says debt is the biggest obstacle on the road to building wealth, and the worst part is that we treat it as completely normal.
