In our twenties it's easy to think positively about our finances, provided all our basic needs - food, housing, bills - are met. But what if you want more than just to survive? You want to buy a house, retire comfortably one day, and give your children a good education. In that case, you need to start investing now, because it will make a big difference later. This book will be very valuable for those who are just starting their careers in investing. Robbins starts from the basics and then goes into details that I'm sure not many people know.
So, there is a lot to teach everyone in this well-edited work, especially through its pithy quotes. The first one worth highlighting is "If you're not confused, you don't really understand what's going on". This sums up the world of investing perfectly. After all, it is a very confusing area. There is so much to learn that at some point it will scare you. You can easily get bored with all the options. Even the best investors in the world get confused sometimes. For example, some of the Warren Buffets of the world don't know why a business is stagnating. The majority of these great people didn't see the 2008 crisis coming either, so you're not alone, you don't have to be right 100% of the time, it's enough to be right half the time to become a successful investor.
"When people are forced to make financial decisions, they often act out of fear- and any decision made in that state is likely to be wrong." Just as it is said that anger is not a good advisor, the same can be said of fear. This emotionally saturated state undermines the ability to make rational decisions. However, we tend to ignore this and everyone has made a choice out of fear, but this is very critical when it comes to the world of investing. Let's go back to the Great Depression again. It is a perfect example of people acting out of fear. Most people sold their shares when in fact the logical thing would have been to hold on to them and even buy more.
